Abstract Art

Students in 2nd and 3rd grade learned about the art of Joan Miro and Kandinsky.  We observed the paintings of these artists and discussed what abstract art was.  We decided that abstract art is colors, shapes and lines.  The students in 2nd grade learned watercolor techniques and painted their own abstract painting using different colors.  When they finished their painting they added lines with black yarn.

Students in 3rd grade created abstract art like Joan Miro.  The students were challenged to make decisions about what lines and shapes to draw on their paper with crayon.  They also had to decide what colors they would add with paint after they finished their abstract drawings.
