Kindergarten students learned about weaving and sewing. Part of their vocabulary was the word tapestry. A tapestry is a piece of thick textile fabric with pictures or designs formed by weaving colored weft threads or by embroidering on canvas. Each student worked with many different colored threads to sew and weave lines and shapes onto burlap cloth.

After all the Kindergarten classes worked on the tapestry, they learned about how artists make lines. We discussed different ways that artists can create lines; with crayon, paint, tape, and of course, sewing! They used view finders to block off a section of the tapestry and were to draw the lines of the yarn that they could see. This helps the Kinders really observe the lines they are drawing!
